[bt_quote style="box" width="0"] Earlobe repair is a quick and effective cosmetic surgery procedure to correct ears stretched by tribal ear piercing (flesh tunnels) or split earlobes torn when normal earrings rip. [/bt_quote] [bt_accordion width="0" active_first="yes" icon="plus-square-1"] [bt_spoiler title=" Considering Earlobe Repair surgery?" icon="list"] Split earlobe repair is a procedure that we provides for an earlobe which has torn entirely, as a result of overstretching or accidental tearing when wearing earrings. Stretched earlobe repair is a surgical procedure for people with stretched earlobes as a result of a tribal ear piercing, also known as a flesh tunnel. Flesh tunnel repair surgery is performed in the same manner as split earlobe repair surgery, however it may take slightly longer. An incision is made in the earlobes and then stitched to repair the affected area. It is a relatively quick and simple procedure conducted under local anaesthetic. [/bt_spoiler] [bt_spoiler title=" How will it impact on your life?" icon="list"] When the earlobe is stretched to more than 8mm with a tribal ear piercing, it is unlikely that the hole will fully contract to its original size. This results in an abnormally shaped earlobe which is often difficult to hide with hair, especially for men with shorter hairstyles. If you feel that your stretched or split earlobes are affecting your appearance, social life and career, the surgical team at Skin and Sculpt can provide the solution. Many of our patients have increased confidence in their appearance following surgery. [/bt_spoiler] [bt_spoiler title=" Is Earlobe Repair right for you?" icon="list"] Stretched earlobe repair surgery is performed under local anaesthetic and typically takes 20-30 minutes per earlobe. It involves removing the excess tissue and using fine internal and external stitches in the earlobe to create a normal shape. Split earlobe repair with rotation flap is a technique which allows patients to safely and conveniently wear earrings two weeks post procedure instead of having to wait up to six months with the standard procedure. The length of this procedure takes between 30 -40 minutes per earlobe. [/bt_spoiler] [bt_spoiler title=" After your surgery and beyond" icon="list"] After your earlobe repair surgery there will be small scars on the ears which will at first be red, but will eventually fade to a pale silvery colour. After 4-6 months the earlobe should look almost completely normal with no obvious signs of the previous piercing. Ears can be re-pierced 6 months after the operation has taken place. [/bt_spoiler] [bt_spoiler title=" Is the prodecure painful?" icon="list"] Apart from the local anaesthetic injection, which may feel like a little prick, you should not feel any discomfort at all. You might experience a slight stinging sensation as the ear begins to numb throughout. When the treatment has finished and anaesthetic effect wears off, slight discomfort may be experienced. Usually, patients do not require the consumption of pain killers.[/bt_spoiler] [bt_spoiler title=" What are risks of the treatment?" icon="list"] With any cosmetic surgery procedure there are potential side-effects such as infection, bleeding and scarring. Fortunately, with earlobe repair, the risks are very low and it is a safe and simple procedure. [/bt_spoiler] [bt_spoiler title=" What is the after care?" icon="list"] The dressing can be removed a couple of hours after and the wound should be cleaned with saline twice a day using clean cotton buds. Once cleaned, a prescriptive antibiotic cream should be applied. You should avoid stress or strain at the area. It is advised to keep the wound clean, dry and away from water for at least first 3-4 days, therefore, wash your hair before you come in for your treatment. Using dry shampoo can also help keeping the wound dry. These cleaning instructions will be discussed with you by our Clinic Co-ordinator and will need to continue until the stitches are removed. [/bt_spoiler] [bt_spoiler title=" When can I re-pierce my ear again?" icon="list"] You should leave the wound to heal for at least 6 months before having the ear re-pierced. It is also recommended not to pierce directly at the wound area or above. [/bt_spoiler] [/bt_accordion]
